What principles guide Mapúa Tri-X?

Mapúa Tri-X is guided by the CARE principles based on Beatty’s (2019) University Principles for HyFlex Course Design:

  • Choice: Provide meaningful alternative participation modes and enable students to choose between participation modes daily, weekly, or topically.
  • Accessibility: Equip students with technology skills and equitable access to all participation modes.
  • Reusability: Utilize artifacts from learning activities in each participation mode as “learning objects” for all students.
  • Equivalency: Provide learning activities in all participation modes which lead to equivalent learning outcomes.

Why did we shift to Mapúa Tri-X?

Mapúa Tri-X is the University’s response to the need to provide hybrid and flexible options for students who would like to receive world-class education at Mapúa University but are faced with barriers, such as time and geographic constraints and public health challenges and natural calamities.

Aside from giving students the power to choose their mode of participation for every lesson, Mapúa Tri-X also maximizes the strengths of Cardinal Edge, the University’s learning management system, by using it as a repository of recorded sessions and other teaching and learning objects, which students can access when they want to review their lessons or practice their skills at the comfort of their home or the convenience of their own time. This framework is made possible through designed arrangements and underlying conditions (principles) of implementing extensive technology-mediated teaching learning needed for the successful demonstration of student outcomes.

Will all my courses be delivered in Mapúa Tri-X?

No, not all. Beginning Q2 AY 2022-2023, Mapúa Tri-X was rolled only for lecture courses. The University also actively engages the faculty and the course clusters in focus-group discussions to reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of HyFlex delivery for particular courses and outcomes. Presently, students are advised to communicate with their instructors or professors regarding the specific mode of delivery for each course.
