Mapua University recently embarked on an exciting journey, counting down to its centennial-year celebration from January 22, 2024, to January 27, 2024. The festivities kicked off with an early morning mass at the St. Rita Chapel, setting the stage for a weeklong celebration that promised to be nothing short of spectacular. The highlight of this countdown was the traditional parade, a vibrant spectacle that marked a significant milestone as the School of Health Sciences made its debut in joining the grand countdown to Mapua University’s centennial celebration.
Collaboration and creativity were at the heart of this momentous event as the councils from Mapúa University Makati, including the School of Health Sciences (SoHS), School of Information Technology (SoIT), School of Media Studies (SMS), ETY School of Business (ETYSB), and the School of Health Sciences Student Council (SHSSC), united to craft a float that would leave a lasting impression. At the center of the float was an enlarged image of Don Tomas Mapua, a visionary figure whose legacy continues to inspire. This artistic representation not only intended to celebrate the university’s 99-year journey but similarly aimed to showcase the outstanding contributions of its alumni and the remarkable progress achieved throughout the country’s history.
Leading the parade for the SoHS was Student Council Internal Vice-President Daryl Atienza, an enthusiastic psychology student leader, who ignited the crowd with spirited cheers, embodying the unwavering school spirit that defines Mapúa University. Together with SoHS Student Council President Cy Mendoza, fellow psychology students, esteemed Psychology Chair Annabel Choy, and the rest of their dear professors, as well as their beloved SoHS Dean, Dr. Maya Santos, they all embarked on a sun-soaked journey through the historic streets of Intramuros. The grand procession commenced at the Mapua quadrangle and culminated at the Mapua Gym, where the School of Health Sciences’ float received the ultimate honor – a recognition and a cash prize award of Php 50,000 for being the best float in the parade.
Mapua University’s Countdown to 100 is not just a weeklong celebration but a momentous journey towards a significant milestone. With the inclusion of the School of Health Sciences in this grand parade, the university’s rich history, unity, and commitment to excellence are illuminated as they look forward to the momentous centennial year on the horizon.
