Mapúa University in partnership with Aboitiz Power Corporation, recently announced the successful execution of its Power Systems 101 microcourse. This specialized learning program is designed to strengthen knowledge of the Philippine energy sector among policymakers, industry leaders, and academic institutions.
The pilot run of the course was conducted on December 10-11, 2025, with participants from the National Transmission Corporation (TransCo). Following that, a second run was held on April 7-8, 2026, engaging participants from the Department of Energy (DOE).
Tailored for policymakers and industry players, the Power Systems 101 provides a comprehensive learning experience that deepens the understanding of the Philippine energy sector’s structure. The course offers critical insights into engineering concepts, current trends, and sectoral challenges. Furthermore, it equips policymakers with the knowledge necessary for informed decision-making and promotes dialogue to address pressing sectoral issues.
As the Philippines continues to face energy challenges ranging from rising demand and supply constraints to the urgent need for sustainable solutions, this initiative is deemed crucial as it strengthens energy literacy while bridging the knowledge gap that often hinders effective policymaking and community engagement.
This initiative serves as a joint endeavor under the signed memorandum of agreement (MOA) between AboitizPower and Mapúa University to enhance energy literacy and promote informed dialogues on power generation, transmission, and distribution. By focusing on the technical, operational, and engineering components of the Philippine power system, the collaboration ensures that discussions on energy policy and infrastructure are grounded in both technical expertise and academic rigor.
