Rodolfo “Nonong” Albarillo is a BS Civil Engineering graduate in April 1978 and passed the PRC professional licensure examination (#19636) the same year.  He started his professional career in July 1978 a an Engineer Trainee at the National Irrigation Administration’s Magat River Multi-Purpose Project.  In 1980, he joined Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco) in Saudi Arabia, the worlds biggest oil company.  To enhance his self-development, Nong Albarillo enrolled in various technical, quality, supervisory and management continuing education courses/classes in the US (extension courses) and Saudi Arabia, sponsored by Saudi Aramco.

             Due to his consistent high performance, strong leadership and technical capabilities, he was promoter after only two (2) years from his hiring date.  He was assigned a challenging  task to lead Saudi Aramco’s biggest civil testing laboratory for its biggest construction project in 1982 where he managed more than 20 multinational technicians  and 5 engineers that included US and UK engineers more senior than him.

             He was later assigned in various research activities in Saudi Aramco’s Civil Testing Laboratory involving construction materials like slurry seal, sulfur modified asphalt and special processes such as ground improvement techniques.  He developed expertise in failure investigation ad materials evaluation.  Nong rose to being a civil engineering specialist and became a member of Aramco’s prestigious Engineering Standards Committee.  He often represents his Company during Annual National Quality Week where he often delivers technical presentations or acted as moderator on selected topics.

             In 2010, he co-authored with three engineering consultants from the United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia a technical paper on Manifa Causeway Project.  This Project is first of its kind in the world with twenty-seven artificial/dredged drilling islands, each one the size of ten football fields, from the inception, feasibility studies, design, QA/QC and construction.  The paper was published in the December 2010 issue of the Institution of Civil Engineers Maritime Engineering Journal in the United Kingdom.

             Nong is so far, the only Filipino in Saudi Aramco that has achieved the position of Senior Supervisor, a position equivalent to an Engineering Specialist.
